Antique Victorian Long Guard Chain 9ct Gold
Measuring an impressive 67 inches, this grand antique Victorian guard chain consists of faceted cable links, each fashioned in 9ct yellow gold. They have a pleasing patina and glitter beautifully in the sunshine, with a traditional claw clasp hanging at the end.
Both fashionable and practical, Guard chains were a must have accessory in the 18th & 19th Century. They were deliberately long enough to be tucked into a belt and the clasp could be fitted with a pocket watch, lorgnette glasses or a cylinder of fur known as a muff for quick access when needed. They’re also perfect for layering and can be personalised with lockets, pendants, or charms.
Dating to the late 19th Century, this luxurious Victorian guard chain has a good weight and ample length so it can be worn as one long statement chain or looped two to three times around the neck to create magnificent festoons of glittering gold!
