Buying Online - Antique Jewellery Online

How Safe is it to Buy Antique Jewellery Online?

The high street jeweller is what most people think of when it comes to buying a piece of antique jewellery. These institutions are seen as bastions of security and discretion, with many years of experience in doing what they do, and yet many do not move with the times.

Over the past decade the internet has become the most popular marketplace on the face of the earth. Partly this is driven by convenience – buying from your home computer, desktop or even your mobile is quicker and less troublesome than making your way to a physical location. However, online buying wouldn’t have taken off to the extent it did without the process becoming more and more secure.

Antique Jewellery Online is a site built from the ground up with safety in mind. Like many of the larger online retailers all of our pages are protected with end to end encryption. Whenever you are on our site you can see a small padlock in the top left hand corner of your screen next to the address of the page that you’re using. This means that any information you enter into the site is transmitted encoded to us, with no possibility of being intercepted between your computer and our team.

Many technological experts now advise that online transactions are actually safer than offline, as the technology that manages them is so much more advanced, whereas physical payments still rely on 1970’s technology.

How Can I Be Sure of What I’m Buying?

With every piece we list on our website we strive to provide as much information as we possibly can. Our dedicated photography team capture many images of each piece to show every possible angle, as well as including shots of the piece being worn so that you can clearly see the size of the piece.

How can I know - Antique Jewellery Online

Our experts identify all of the characteristics that make the piece unique, from the era in which it was constructed to the materials it was created from, all the way down to the length, breadth, depth and any other measurements that will help to give you a totally accurate picture of how the piece looks.

In many cases we’ll also shoot a short video so that you can see the piece in motion. This lets you see how the gemstones sparkle when moving – a key concern if you’re investing in a diamond solitaire, for example. Because our inventory is constantly updating we don’t create videos for all pieces, but we are always happy to do so on request

If you really need to see the piece you’re considering in person our experts will do their best to come and meet with you in person so that you can see the piece at close range and speak with experienced professionals who can answer any questions you may have.

We take every measure to make sure that you are happy with the item you acquire from us, but if you should receive the piece and not be entirely satisfied with it we will refund the entire amount, less postage and a small administration fee, no questions asked. All you need to do is mark the returned item “antique returns” and send it back to us.

Don’t High Street Jewellers Know more?

Many high street jewellers have been in business for decades, but the fact that we sell online does not mean we are new to the business, indeed we sell to retail outlets. Antique Jewellery Online and the sister companies who form the Antique Jewellery Group have been trading for 50 years. We are a family business with decades of experience and a dedicated staff.

One of the reasons that we chose to fully embrace selling online is that it provides a safer and more easily accessible way for our customers to browse our pieces and select the one which truly speaks to them. Where a high street jeweller would have to retrieve trays of different pieces we can show you every piece of a particular type, stone, era or style with a simple search.

In addition to this, a high street jeweller would need to be extremely careful when allowing customers to view large numbers of highly valued, and extremely portable items. Security precautions create additional pressure to buy, and can create an environment where it’s difficult to make the right decision.

We want our customers to be able to peruse our wares, ask questions and find out what they need to know without feeling that they are being sold to. It’s your decision which piece you’d like to invest your money in, we are simply here to help.
