Antique Victorian Long Garnet Guard Chain 9ct Gold
A magnificent antique Victorian guard chain from the late 19th Century decorated with faceted almandine garnet beads with a luxurious, deep violet/ red hue, connected by 9ct gold curb links and held by a ring clasp at the end.
Guard chains were at the height of popularity in the 18th & 19th Century. Both fashionable and practical, they were deliberately long enough to be tucked into a belt and were usually adorned with a pocket watch, lorgnette or muff.
It has a good length, measuring 65 inches and can be worn as one long chain or looped twice around the neck, creating two fabulous festoons.
