Antique Victorian Diamond Pearl Insect Brooch 2ct Of Diamond With Box
A wonderful antique Victorian brooch from the late 1800s featuring a winged insect perched upon a spray of leaves and flowers. The front is decorated with an array of twinkling rose cut diamonds (approx. 2ct total) with cabochon ruby eyes and four lustrous natural pearls.
Insect jewellery grew in popularity at the turn of the 20th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.
It’s fashioned in silver and backed in 18ct yellow gold with a long pin and safety chain on the reverse to hold it securely in place. It’s a fabulous antique treasure and is accompanied by its original fitted box with purple velvet interior to store it in.
