Antique Victorian Albert Chain Necklace 9ct Gold
A classic antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19th Century made up of interlocking fetter links, with smaller cable links in between, all crafted in 9ct gold with a bright, yellow gold bloom.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert in the 19th Century and were traditionally used by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It’s a wonderful design, very stylish and is fitted with a new T-bar and claw clasp over time, all displaying 9ct stamps and the maker’s initials.
