Crafted in 9ct gold, this grand antique Victorian Albert chain measures 16.8 inches and consists of faceted cable links and interlocked ring and fetter links, with scalloped edges and circular engraving down the sides. Each link has developed a warm, rosy patina with age and joins the traditional claw clasps and T-bar, all stamped with hallmarks and various maker’s marks.

The classic Albert chain was both a fashionable and practical accessory for a gentleman in the 20th Century, often adorned with a pocket watch or fob and secured to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. In later years, they found new meaning when the wives of soldiers during WWI began wearing them as keepsakes, keeping a tangible link to their loved ones close to their hearts.

Victorian Albert chains are still extremely popular today and this is a particularly fine example, dating to the late 19th Century. It can be worn as a traditional Albert, or as a chic necklace, perfect for layering with other gold chains in your collection for a stylish contemporary look.
