Antique Victorian Albert Chain 9ct Gold With T-Bar
This fine antique Victorian Albert chain is made up of 9ct gold trombone and knot links that have developed a lovely rosy hue with age. The links are all stamped “375/ 9ct” and lead to a double claw clasp at the end.
Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It's a wonderful antique Albert chain and is fitted with a T-bar at the bottom complete with Birmingham hallmarks and a few extra links at the side that could hold a pendant or medallion.
