Modelled in solid 9ct gold, this classic antique Victorian Albert chain consists of lustrous curb links, leading to a T-bar at the bottom and its original claw clasps at each end. Each link has developed a lovely rosy-gold patina over time and is verified with a “375/ 9ct” stamp.  The chain bears an “S.BROS” mark on the clasp and the T-bar has the initials “M&M”, suggesting it was added later to the piece.

Albert chains were traditionally a practical accessory, worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. They have since evolved into versatile and stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the First World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.

This luxurious Victorian Albert chain is perfect for layering with other gold chains or worn alone as a statement piece or watch chain. The style is as popular today as it was in the 19th Century, and this is a particularly fine example, with a pleasing weight and bright rosy bloom.
