Antique Victorian 18ct Gold Shamrock Locket

A splendid antique Victorian locket from the late 19th Century modelled in solid 18ct gold with tangled vines of three-leaf shamrocks wrapping around the front.

Shamrocks have long been associated with luck and good fortune and each leaf is said to represent faith, hope and love. They were also a symbol of Ireland and Saint Patrick who used the image to illustrate the Holy Trinity, one leaf for the Father, one for the Son and one for the Holy Spirit.

The large locket has a lovely weight, patina and smoothness that has developed over time and is complete with rims and windows within ready to house two cherished family portraits.
