Antique Edwardian Albert Chain 9ct Rose Gold Dated 1916
This grand antique Edwardian Albert chain is made up of solid rose gold trombone links each stamped “375/ 9ct”. They’re lovely and smooth with a pleasing patina and lead to a T-bar at the bottom and two claw clasps at the top.
Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It's a wonderful antique Albert chain and complete with Chester hallmarks along one of the links that date the piece to 1916.
