Dating to the late 19th Century, this silky, long antique Victorian guard chain consists of 9ct yellow gold cable links and has a subtle, muted gold hue, finished with a traditional claw clasp at the bottom, stamped with the maker’s mark “B.G”.

Guard chains were both stylish and functional, making them an essential accessory in the 19th century. Designed with deliberate length to be tucked into a belt, their clasps could hold a pocket watch, lorgnette glasses, or even a small fur cylinder known as a muff, ensuring items were always within easy reach.

This beautifully preserved 9ct gold Victorian guard chain has an ample length of 62 inches so it can be worn as a single, elongated statement piece or looped twice around the neck for a layered, contemporary look. It’s also perfect for layering with other gold chains and personalising with lockets, pendants, or charms.

We recommend you insure for £3,200. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
