Antique Victorian Diamond Pendant Brooch 2ct Total With Box
This stunning antique Victorian diamond cluster pendant/ brooch is crafted in silver and 18ct gold and set with a dazzling starburst of old mine cut diamonds, exhibiting excellent SI1 clarity – H colour, approx. 2 carats total. The open-work gallery features a foldaway loop and a detachable pin and locking clasp at the back, so it can be worn as a pendant or brooch depending on the occasion.
During the 18th and 19th Century, old cut diamonds were considered the highest quality with skilfully hand-cut facets that were said to gently dance by candlelight. They may be less flashy by modern standards, but their rugged aesthetic and distinctive fire are unlike any machine-cut stones made today and evoke the romance and skilled craftsmanship of a bygone era.
This versatile Victorian diamond pendant was made in London in the late 19th Century and is accompanied by its original antique box, featuring a brown and gold leatherette exterior and blue velvet cushion inside for the pendant to rest on. It’s stamped with the maker’s mark under the lid, belonging to Daniel and John Wellby Ltd.
