Antique Victorian Amethyst Pearl Necklace 15ct Gold With Box
Dating to the late 19th Century, this majestic antique Victorian amethyst pearl lavaliere necklace is adorned with seven deep-violet amethysts graduating along the bottom, interspersed with looping ivy leaf motifs, dotted with bright white seed pearls. The links and chain are all fashioned in warm 15ct yellow gold and are held securely by a tube clasp at the end.
In the 19th century, ivy became a beloved romantic motif, representing a strong bond that could not easily be broken. This sentiment is perfectly captured in the Victorian rhyme: “Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee.” The combination of amethysts and pearls also have sentimental significance, representing protection, love and devotion.
This elegant amethyst pearl ivy necklace is a true testament to Victorian craftsmanship, with its harmonious arrangement of contrasting gems draping gracefully around the neck. It’s remained in pristine condition and is even accompanied by its original antique box, featuring a burgundy leatherette exterior and cream velvet interior, with the maker’s signature “John G. Jacobs” of Liverpool printed on silk beneath the lid.
