A magnificent, animated bee brooch inspired by the colourful insect jewellery of the early 1900s. It’s bejewelled with twinkling rose cut diamonds (approx. 1.8ct total), blue sapphires (approx. 5.2ct total) and two green peridot eyes (approx. 0.10ct each).

Insect jewellery grew in popularity at the turn of the 20th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.

The sapphires are a vibrant royal blue and contrast beautifully with the diamonds. The largest are 0.30 & 0.45ct and are a combination of oval and pear cuts, with a line of calibre set French cut stones lining the edge of the wings.

The piece is a union of silver and 18ct gold with milgrain edging and articulated back legs and wings that wobble and flap to give life to the piece. It’s very striking and is secured with a pin and locking clasp on the reverse.

We recommend you insure for £4,300. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
