A grand antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19th Century consisting of long twisted links, with smaller knot links in between. All are crafted in solid yellow gold and bear “375/ 9ct” stamps upon each link.

Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort in the 19th Century and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.

It’s a wonderful design with a good weight and fitted with claw clasps, marked with the maker’s initials (J.G.& S) and a T-bar at the bottom that has been added over time.

We recommend you insure for £2,900. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
