A stunning Antique insect brooch from the turn of the 20th Century (Circa 1900). The piece is decorated with glistening Diamonds, red Ruby eyes and two Turquoise which make up the body and abdomen. The wings are also zigzagged in a royal Blue Enamel and decorated with further Diamonds.

Insect jewellery grew in popularity at the turn of the 20th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.

The largest Diamond is a beautiful Rose cut claw set at the head and weighs approx. 0.60ct with a total of approx. 1.50ct across the piece.  

The body is fashioned entirely in 18ct Gold and fitted with a pin and safety lock clasp on the reverse. It’s remained in pristine condition and displays a fabulous collection of gemstones.
