A magnificent antique Victorian butterfly brooch from the late 19th Century decorated with twinkling rose cut diamonds (approx. 2ct), beautiful sky-blue turquoise cabochons (approx. 6ct) and two red ruby eyes.

Insect jewellery became increasingly popular in the late 19th Century as many were left longing to reconnect with the beauty of the natural world after the Industrial Revolution and the vast urbanisation of Great Britain. This brought about an abundance of romanticised Insect and butterfly pieces, decorated with colourful gemstones to counteract the more mechanised, industrialisation of modern design.

The piece displays exquisite open workmanship across the wings and is crafted in silver and 15ct gold with a detachable curved pin at the back. It would look spectacular pinned to a lapel and showcases a gorgeous array of gemstones.

We recommend you insure for £4,300. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
