Antique Victorian Etruscan Turquoise Diamond Mourning Brooch 18ct Gold
A remarkable antique Victorian Etruscan revival brooch fashioned in 18ct gold with a large turquoise encrusted dome in the centre, topped with a twinkling old mine cut diamond.
Etruscan revival pieces were crafted in the late 1800s after ancient Etruscan jewellery was unearthed in tombs outside of Rome, beginning a fascination with the style and giving birth to these beautiful pieces which were crafted in the same grand and elaborate fashion.
The ornate gallery has a beautiful Etruscan inspired design and a concealed locket on the reverse, with a lock of blonde hair preserved behind. There are also flourishes of white enamel at each side of the dome, often symbolising purity and innocence, which indicate the piece may have been made to mourn the passing of a beloved child.
It’s a rare and exquisite antique find and was clearly very dear to its original owner. It has been kept in pristine condition over the centuries and deserves to be treasured once more.
